6 COVID-19-related deaths, 319 new cases reported

Nov. 24, 2020. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting six COVID-19 related deaths in Washoe County:

  • A male in his 60s, underlying health condition
  • A female in her 60s, underlying health condition
  • A female in her 90s, underling health condition
  • A male in his 40, underlying health condition
  • A male in his 60s, underlying health condition
  • A female in her 90s, underlying health condition

There have been 252 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County, including 30 in the last six days. The six deaths is the most reported in one day (6 were also reported on Oct. 12).

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) compiled a list of underlying conditions that make people more susceptible to COVID-19 complications.

As a reminder, the Washoe County Health District recommends that you avoid hosting or attending a Thanksgiving gathering with people from outside of your household, especially those with underlying health conditions.

Additionally, we’re reporting 319 new COVID-19 cases and 157 recoveries. The seven-day moving average for new cases per day rose for the fourth day in a row and is now at a record 513.4 (Previous high was 500 yesterday, Nov. 23).

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 22,726 (+319 from 11/23)
  • Deaths: 252 (+6)
  • Recovered: 14,610 (+157)
  • Active cases: 7,864 (+156)
  • Hospitalized with COVID-19*: 230 (-18)

*Data from Nevada Hospital Association (not updated on weekends) includes residents from outside of Washoe County.

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of November 24: 227,984 (+2,597 since 11/23)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of November 24 (Numbers not updated on weekends):

  • 83 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (-1% since 11/23)
  • 71 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (-4%)
  • 55 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-6%)
  • 30 percent of all ventilators are in use (-2%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

Volunteer to help fight COVID-19 in Washoe County

The Washoe County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is looking for medical professionals or those without medical experience to volunteer to help fight COVID-19 in Washoe County.

MRC was created to support public health and emergency response efforts during natural disasters and other emergencies by providing trained volunteers to help staff shelters, alternate care sites, and points of dispensing. Given the rise in hospitalizations and increased demand in COVID-19 testing, volunteers are needed to support the region.
