Additional COVID-19-related death reported in Washoe County

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting an additional COVID-19-related death in Washoe County: A female in her 40s with underlying health conditions.

This is the 29th COVID-19-related death in Washoe County.

In addition, we’re reporting 19 additional recoveries, 14 additional positive cases and an overall decrease of active cases.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 834 (+14 from 4/27)
  • Deaths: 29 (+1)
  • Recoveries: 297 (+19)
  • Active cases: 508 (-6)
  • Currently hospitalized: 37 (-1)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 63 (+1)

Hospital bed and ventilator information

In Washoe County as of April 27, 2020:

  • 56 percent of short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+1% since April 26)
  • 45 percent of the Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-2%)
  • 20 percent of ventilators are in use (+1%)

Total number of COVID-19 tests in Washoe County: 9,624 (+151 from April 27)

As of April 28, 2020, a total of 9,624 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Washoe County. The tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Additional information added to COVID-19 Dashboard

The Regional Information Team continues to add information to its COVID-19 Dashboard. The latest update includes a graph that shows a 7-day Moving Average, which adds context to the curve and gives a historical representation of previous updates. The graph is located under Case History; look for the tab marked “7-Day Moving Average.”

In addition, users can also download a spreadsheet of ZIP Code data. Under Case History, select the tab ZIP Code Map. On the top right, look for a button “Download This Table.” When clicked, a spreadsheet is download with the data used to formulate the ZIP Code Map.

There are now 19 points of data on the COVID-19 Dashboard.

COVID-19 testing capacity expanding, residents with symptoms encouraged to complete risk assessment

The Washoe County drive-thru testing site has ample supplies and availability to test people who are showing symptoms of COVID-19 for testing.

To complete a risk assessment, call 775-328-2427, or fill out a risk assessment form online (Complete el formulario de evaluación COVID-19).

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) increased the number of symptoms associated with COVID-19. In addition to fever, cough and shortness of breath, updated symptoms include:

  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell
