Three COVID-19-related deaths reported in Washoe County

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting three additional COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County:

  • A male in his 70s with underlying health conditions
  • A female in her 90s with underlying health conditions
  • A male in his 80s and it is under investigation whether there were underlying health conditions

Additionally, there were 73 recoveries and 72 additional COVID-19 cases in Washoe County.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 6,545 (+72 from 8/19)
  • Deaths: 131 (+3)
  • Recovered: 5,301 (+73)
  • Active cases: 1,113 (-4)
  • Currently hospitalized: 81 (-2)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 481 (+3)

COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of August 20: 103,082 (+942 since 8/19)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of August 19:

  • 62 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+0% since 8/18)
  • 35 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+1%)
  • 12 percent of all ventilators are in use (+1%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

Bars remain closed in Washoe County

The COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force approved an action plan that keeps bars, taverns, pubs, wineries and breweries closed in Washoe County. Washoe County and the cities of Reno and Sparks submitted a plan to reopen bars with several restrictions to decrease the number of gatherings at residences. The Task Force noted continued and sustained elevated risk of COVID-19 transmission as the reason to keep bars closed. Read more here.
