32 recoveries, 5 new COVID-19 cases reported in Washoe County

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting 32 recoveries and five new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County.
- Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 1,100 (+5 from 5/10)
- Deaths: 39 (+0)
- Recoveries: 529 (+32)
- Active cases: 532 (-27)
- Currently hospitalized: 43 (+1)
- Cases who have discharged from hospital: 94 (+1)
Hospital bed and ventilator information
According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of May 9, 2020:
- 65 percent of staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+9% since May 7)
- 32 percent of the Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-7%)
- 11 percent of ventilators are in use (-1%)
The number of staffed beds in Washoe County does not include alternate care sites such as the one at Renown Regional Medical Center.
Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County: 14,029 (+813 from 5/8)
As of May 10, 2020, 14,029 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Washoe County. The tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County. The numbers are provided by the State of Nevada and include testing done in Washoe County via the drive-thru site at the Livestock Events Center and at area hospitals.
New COVID-19 risk assessment form launched
The COVID-19 Incident Management Team launched an improved risk assessment form that allows easier scheduling, faster notification of test results and requires less staff resources.
The new risk assessment form can be found here (Complete el formulario de evaluación COVID-19) and allows users to create a secure account. Users can now schedule (or reschedule) a COVID-19 test appointment online, get results securely emailed to them and it requires fewer staff resources to manage.
A common issue is notification emails being sent to spam folders. Please be sure to check all folders if you’re expecting test results or looking to schedule a test. If that occurs, please adjust your email settings.
The team is also working with the vendor for capability to change language settings. If there are any issues, residents can call 775-328-2427, which is available 24/7.
Mask and face coverings still advised
The Washoe County Health District is advising further use of masks and facial coverings in public to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
Governor Sisolak’s directive to enter Phase 1 Reopening in Nevada required employees to wear masks. Customers should also consider wearing masks or facial coverings.
While masks are in short supply and N95 masks should only be worn by first responders and healthcare workers, cloth facial coverings are more readily available. Constructing your own face covering can be done with just cloth and rubber bands.
As has been reported, people who have COVID-19 can spread the virus without showing symptoms. Large gatherings can increase the risk of exposure to our loved ones who fall into high-risk populations of dying from COVID-19, which include the elderly and those with underlying health conditions or compromised immune systems.
