Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting two additional COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County:
- A male in his 50s with underlying health conditions
- A male in his 70s with underlying health conditions
There are 45 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.
In addition, there were 22 additional COVID-19 cases and 13 additional recoveries.
- Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 1,154 (+22 from 5/13)
- Deaths: 45 (+2)
- Recoveries: 575 (+13)
- Active cases: 534 (+7)
- Currently hospitalized: 51 (+7)
- Cases who have discharged from hospital: 103 (+0)
Hospital bed and ventilator information
According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of May 13, 2020:
- 65 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+8% since May 12)
- 45 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-1%)
- 19 percent of all ventilators are in use (+5%)
NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

- Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County: 14,935 (+351 from 5/12)
The COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County. The numbers are provided by the State of Nevada and include testing done in Washoe County via the drive-thru site at the Livestock Events Center and at area hospitals.
COVID-19 testing conducted at temporary homeless shelter
In an effort to continue testing vulnerable populations in Washoe County for COVID-19, the Washoe County Health District and the National Guard tested 107 homeless individuals at the Reno Events Center on Thursday.
The tests were voluntary and completed in less than two hours. Those who were tested were given the option of being notified of test results by phone, email or mailed to the Community Assistance Center.
This was the first mobile testing that has been completed by the Health Branch of the Incident Management Team. The Health Branch has provided COVID-19 sample collection kits to local first responders, law enforcement and long term care facilities.
2 Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center staff members test positive for COVID-19
Two Washoe County staff members at Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center have tested positive for COVID-19. No children at the facility have tested positive.
Out of an abundance of caution, 57 staff and 20 children were tested for COVID-19. A case contact investigation was conducted. The staff members are self-isolating. The center has no operational issues from the positive tests and parents were notified of the test results.
