48th COVID-19-related death reported in Washoe County

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting an additional COVID-19-related death in Washoe County. The deceased is a female in her 90s with underlying health conditions.
There are 48 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.
In addition, there were 15 recoveries from COVID-19 and 10 new cases in Washoe County.
- Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 1,266 (+10 from 5/17)
- Deaths: 48 (+1)
- Recoveries: 672 (+15)
- Active cases: 546 (-6)
- Currently hospitalized: 54 (-1)
- Cases who have discharged from hospital: 107 (+1)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.
Have COVID-19 symptoms? Get tested
Washoe County has testing readily available for those who are showing symptoms of COVID-19, which include fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and others. Testing for those who don’t have those symptoms is only for healthcare workers, first responders and other vulnerable populations at long-term care facilities.

Hospital bed and ventilator information
According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of May 17, 2020:
- 67 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+0% since May 14)
- 42 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-4%)
- 25 percent of all ventilators are in use (+10%)
NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

EMS Week is an opportunity to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine’s front line – particularly during challenging times like this.
