One additional COVID-19-related death reported; statement on bars remaining closed

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting one additional COVID-19-related death in Washoe County: A male in his 70s and it’s unknown if there were underlying health conditions.
Additionally, there were 74 new COVID-19 cases reported in Washoe County with 32 recoveries.
Residents are urged to safely and responsibly celebrate Labor Day this weekend. We recommend avoiding large gatherings. If private gatherings are done safely, the recommendation is they include no more than 10 people; the recommendation for public gatherings in Washoe County is 25 or fewer. Face coverings, washing hands frequently and social distancing of 6 feet are the best ways to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Read more here.

- Deaths: 143 (+1)
- Recovered: 6,329 (+32)
- Active cases: 1,109 (+41)
- Currently hospitalized: 92 (-1)
- Cases who have discharged from hospital: 548 (+4)

- Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of September 5: 114,826 (+1,525 since 9/4)

Hospital bed and ventilator information
According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of September 4:
- 63 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (-1% since 9/3)
- 40 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-1%)
- 25 percent of all ventilators are in use (+0%)
NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.
Statement on bars remaining closed in Washoe County
The Nevada COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force on Thursday ruled that bars, taverns, pubs, breweries and wineries must remain closed for at least 14 days in Washoe County. Regional officials had been advised by task force members prior to Thursday that bar reopenings were highly unlikely to be approved at Thursday’s meeting; therefore, a request to reopen bars was not included.
The regional entities are committed to working with bar owners to collaborate on plans to safely and responsibly reopen as soon as possible.
