Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center today is reporting the following messages for public awareness and education.
Alternative Care Site Planned for Reno-Sparks Convention Center
The Washoe COVID-19 Incident Management Team is preparing to deploy an Alternative Care Site (ACS) at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center to aid in the COVID-19 response in Washoe County.
The ACS branch is working with the Army Corps of Engineers to determine logistics for the facility, in addition to identifying the specific population that would use the facility, staffing and supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). More details will be provided when the plan is finalized.
Virtual Town Hall Series
Have a question about COVID-19? The upcoming Virtual Town Hall is for designed for you – an opportunity to directly address our communities’ questions live by a panel of experts and elected officials – virtually. Throughout the month of April, Washoe County, the City of Reno and the City of Sparks, the Washoe County Health District and our regional partners will be hosting a series of Live Virtual Town Halls events to ensure you stay in the know on the latest COVID-19 information.
Kicking off this Friday, April 10, if you have a question about COVID-19 healthcare response delivery, submit it with through the form here and your question could be answered live at our first Virtual Town Hall on April 10. Stay tuned on our social media channels for coming details on how to watch live this Friday.
How Do I Get Tested for COVID-19
Residents can learn more about whether they should request a COVID-19 test by viewing the following video resource. The Washoe County Health Department will work with patients to identify next steps if you test positive for COVID-19, as well as those that test negative.

How to Make a Face Covering
COVID-19 has been shown to spread between people interacting in close-proximity even when those people are not showing symptoms. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has adjusted its recommendations to recommend wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.

April is Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month
The Human Services Agency’s (HSA) Children’s Services Division continues to provide essential services to ensure the well-being and safety of children in Washoe County during the COVID-19 outbreak. HSA asks the public to remain vigilant in helping protect our most vulnerable children. Please call 833-900-SAFE immediately if you suspect child abuse and/or neglect.
