25 new COVID-19 cases, 15 recoveries reported

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Team is reporting 25 new cases of COVID-19 and 15 recoveries in Washoe County.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 662 (+25 from 4/19)
  • Deaths: 18 (+0)
  • Recoveries: 166 (+15)
  • Active cases: 477 (+9)
  • Currently hospitalized: 43 (-1)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 37 (+4)

Hospital bed and ventilator information

In Washoe County as of April 19, 2020:

  • 55 percent of short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+1% since April 16)
  • 56 percent of the Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+7%)
  • 24 percent of ventilators are in use (-4%)

COVID-19 testing is free and does not require documentation

The COVID-19 Incident Management Team is reminding people that anyone who lives in Washoe County can be tested at the Washoe County drive-thru testing site as long as they meet the requirements from a risk assessment.

Testing through the Washoe County Health District is free and does not require documentation or the release of any information regarding citizenship.

Social Distancing Guidelines Remain in Place

Residents of Washoe County must continue to adhere to social distance guidelines. This means keep six feet of separation between you and others outside your household unit. Only leave home for essential shopping or medical purposes. Wash your hands frequently. Avoid large crowds, including public transportation. Wear face coverings when you are out in the public for essential purposes.

Virtual Town Hall Friday, April 24, 2020 at 1 p.m.
This week’s Regional Information Center Virtual Town Hall will focus on public safety and the health and wellness of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual townhall will be live Friday, April 24 at 1 p.m. on the City of Sparks Facebook page. We encourage the public to submit questions online specific to public safety and health and wellness.

Washoe County School District Hosts Virtual Forum

The WCSD Board of Trustees is providing an opportunity for the public to hear from Dr. McNeill during a Virtual Forum on April 21 at 6 p.m. She will share her vision and priorities for the WCSD and our moderator, Kurt Mische, KNPB President and CEO will ask questions submitted by the community.
