Three additional COVID-19-related deaths reported in Washoe County

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting three additional COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.
The deceased are a woman in her 60s and it’s being investigated whether there were underlying health conditions, a female in her 40s with underlying health conditions and a man in his 70s with underlying health conditions. There are now 33 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.
Further, there were 48 additional COVID-19 cases reported for a total of 546 active cases. That is the highest one-day jump in positive cases for Washoe County and the most active cases at any point. There were 11 additional recoveries.
- Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 921 (+48 from 4/30)
- Deaths: 33 (+3)
- Recoveries: 343 (+11)
- Active cases: 545 (+34)
- Currently hospitalized: 43 (+0)
- Cases who have discharged from hospital: 66 (+0)
Hospital bed and ventilator information
In Washoe County as of April 29, 2020:
- 60 percent of short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+4% since April 28)
- 49 percent of the Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+4%)
- 21 percent of ventilators are in use (+1%)
Total number of COVID-19 tests in Washoe County: 9,885 (-25 from April 29)
As of April 30, 2020, a total of 9,885 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Washoe County. The tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County. Note: The number will sometimes decrease based on the removal of cases who were tested in Washoe County but live outside Washoe County.
Employment sectors seeing the highest number of COVID-19 cases
The Regional Information Center is providing information on the employment sectors with the most COVID-19 cases.
It should be noted that determining where a resident contracted the virus is not always certain. Just because an employment sector is listed, that does not mean the case contracted the virus from that workplace. This data shows a general breakdown of where the positive cases in Washoe County are employed.

- Construction: 44
- Food/Beverage: 13
- Healthcare: 133
- Other: 382
- Unemployed: 98
- Retired: 46
- Warehouse/Manufacturing: 68

COVID-19 Dashboard has new look, and more information
The COVID-19 Regional Information Center has redesigned the Washoe County COVID-19 Dashboard to best display nearly 30 different data points regarding the virus in our area.
Added to the list of data points is demographic information on COVID-19-related deaths, including age, gender and ethnicity.
Reno Vice Mayor Reese’s COVID-19 test results come back negative
Reno Vice Mayor Devon Reese has tested negative for COVID-19.
Reese was tested via the Washoe County drive-thru test site on Wednesday. He documented his experience here.
Help Prevent Wildfires on Public Lands
Regional fire departments would like to remind the media and public that May is Wildfire Awareness Month. Peak wildfire conditions in the Truckee Meadows are expected to occur around June 1, with dry conditions forecasted. Residents are encouraged to learn how they can protect their homes and communities from wildfire, in addition to helping firefighters reduce the number of human-caused fires. Help keep our first responders focused on local response efforts, including COVID-19, rather than spending valuable time and resources on wildfires this spring and summer. Learn more:
