Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting two additional COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County:

  • A female in her 40s with underlying health conditions
  • A female in her 70s with underlying health conditions

There are 52 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County. In addition, there are 17 new cases of COVID-19 with eight recoveries.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 1,378 (+17 from 5/23)
  • Deaths: 52 (+2)
  • Recoveries: 789 (+8)
  • Active cases: 537 (+7)
  • Currently hospitalized: 59 (+0)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 120 (+9)

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of May 23, 2020:

  • 66 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (-2 since May 21)
  • 50 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-3%)
  • 14 percent of all ventilators are in use (-1%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

Randomly-selected residents asked to register for COVID-19 study

The Washoe County Health District is asking residents who were selected to participate in a COVID-19 antibody study in Washoe County please begin their registration as outlined on their informational handout. The study aims to determine the percentage of people in Washoe County who had COVID-19.

One adult will get an antibody test and all remaining household members will get a COVID-19 test.

The study was sent to about 1,180 homes in 173 census tracks in Washoe County. The results are expected to be published in late June or early July. The study is only for those who received the mail invitation.
