 90 new COVID-19 cases reported in Washoe County

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting 90 new cases of COVID-19 in Washoe County, the most ever reported in one day.

The active COVID-19 cases (total cases minus recoveries and deaths) in Washoe County is 748, a new high. The previous high mark, 698, was set on June 20.

The seven-day rolling average for new cases is at 50, also a record. The number of currently hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is at 73, a tie for the highest mark. According to the Nevada Hospital Association, 77 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+21% since June 23).

“The number of new cases is due strictly to community transmission and to residents not taking proper safety precautions when going out in public,” said Kevin Dick, District Health Officer for Washoe County. “We are in a public health crisis right now. The numbers keep climbing but the guidance remains the same: Wear a mask or face covering, stay 6-feet away from people not in your household and wash your hands. This is critical in preventing COVID-19 transmission.”

  • Deaths: 74 (+0)
  • Recoveries: 1,554 (+28)
  • Active cases: 748 (+62)
  • Currently hospitalized: 73 (+2)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 192 (+2)

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of June 24: 45,993 (+138 since 6/23)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of June 24, 2020:

  • 77 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+21% since June 23)
  • 51 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+5%)
  • 18 percent of all ventilators are in use (+4%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.
