79 recoveries, 44 new COVID-19 cases

Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting 79 COVID-19 recoveries and 44 new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County.

According to the COVID-19 County Tracker (page 6) released by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Washoe County is flagged for elevated COVID-19 transmission. The case rate in Washoe County per 100,000 population is 434.6 (threshold is 200) and test positivity rate is 7.8 percent (7 percent is the threshold). Washoe County does have sufficient COVID-19 testing according to the criteria.

Parties and other social gatherings continue to be the most common themes for positive COVID-19 cases, especially in settings where social distancing of 6 feet or more is not being met and facial coverings aren’t being used.

The public is reminded to help slow the spread of the disease by social distancing, wearing a mask in public, avoid gatherings and wash your hands frequently.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 6,161 (+44 from 8/13)
  • Deaths: 124 (+0)
  • Recovered: 4,941 (+79)
  • Active cases: 1,096 (-35)
  • Currently hospitalized: 87 (-1)
  • Cases who have discharged from hospital: 455 (+6)

COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of August 14: 98,860 (+523 since 8/13)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of August 14:

  • 68 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+4% since 8/13)
  • 45 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+8%)
  • 12 percent of all ventilators are in use (-2%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.
