300th COVID-19-related death, 628 new cases reported in Washoe County

Dec. 3, 2020. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting nine COVID-19-related deaths today, surpassing the 300 mark (total is now 304) in Washoe County. The deceased are:

  • Male, 70s, unknown if an underlying health condition
  • Male, 70s, underlying health condition
  • Male, 80s, underlying health condition
  • Male, 50s, no underlying health condition
  • Male, 90s, underlying health condition
  • Female, 70s, underlying health condition
  • Female, 80s, underlying health condition
  • Male, 60s, underlying health condition
  • Male, 60s, underlying health condition

There have been 304 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County to date.

Additionally, we’re reporting 628 new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County and 102 recoveries.  

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 26,498 (+628 from 12/2)
  • Deaths: 304 (+9)
  • Recovered: 15,687 (+102)
  • Active cases: 10,507 (+517)
  • Hospitalized with COVID-19*: 284 (+4)

*Data from Nevada Hospital Association (not updated on weekends or holidays) includes residents from outside of Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of December 3 (Numbers not updated on weekends):

  • 91 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (+0% since 12/2)
  • 77 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (+0%)
  • 56 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-1%)
  • 42 percent of all ventilators are in use (+8%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

The Washoe County COVID-19 Vaccine webpage is live and will be updated frequently with the latest information as it becomes available. The COVID-19 vaccine will be provided when it’s ruled safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The local jurisdictions have reported an uptick in call volume about the COVID-19 vaccine. The Health District Public Health Preparedness division has mass vaccination plans in place already that are being adapted for COVID-19, in conjunction with state and federal partners.

COVID-19 vaccines will be distributed later this month and the first tier who will receive the vaccine will be medical professionals and residents/staff at long-term care facilities.

The remaining tiers of who will receive the vaccine will be determined by the CDC and the State. It’s expected that the general public will be eligible to receive the vaccine in the Spring.

Volunteer to help fight COVID-19 in Washoe County

The Washoe County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is looking for medical professionals or those without medical experience to volunteer to help fight COVID-19 in Washoe County.

MRC was created to support public health and emergency response efforts during natural disasters and other emergencies by providing trained volunteers to help staff shelters, alternate care sites, and points of dispensing. Given the rise in hospitalizations and increased demand in COVID-19 testing, volunteers are needed to support the region.
