329 COVID-19 cases, 6 COVID-19-related deaths reported

Dec. 16, 2020. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting six COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County. There have been 384 COVID-19 deaths in Washoe County, including 50 in the last week and over 100 for the month of December. The deceased are: a female in her 80s, a male in his 60s, a male in his 90s, a male in his 80s, a male in his 90s and a female in her 90s; all had and underlying health condition.

Additionally, we’re reporting 329 new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County. The seven-day moving average for new cases is at 389.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 31,650 (+329 from 12/15)
  • Deaths: 384 (+6)
  • Recovered: 17,687 (+122)
  • Active cases: 13,579 (+201)
  • Hospitalized with COVID-19*: 312 (+32)

*Data from Nevada Hospital Association (not updated on weekends or holidays) includes residents from outside of Washoe County.

COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of December 16: 274,164 (+1,593 since 12/15)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of December 16 (Numbers not updated on weekends):

  • 87 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (+0% since 12/15)
  • 74 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (+0%)
  • 62 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+2%)
  • 31 percent of all ventilators are in use (+1%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

‘When will I get the COVID-19 vaccine?’

The Regional Information Center has an updated COVID-19 vaccine webpage with detailed information on which people will get vaccinated first in Washoe County.

Most Washoe County residents are expected to be able to receive a vaccination sometime this spring. The dates are not known yet. Please do not call the health district to get a vaccine.

The Washoe County Health District received the first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines on Tuesday and will receive another shipment next week. Hospital personnel are the first to receive the vaccine, as determined by the State of Nevada tier-based system from its vaccine playbook.
