1,800 seniors selected to receive COVID-19 vaccine this week from Health District

Those 70 years & older who signed up asked to check their email

Jan. 17, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center sent emails and made phone calls to about 1,800 seniors in Washoe County to receive the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines specifically for those 70 years and older from the Washoe County Health District.

The selections of those 70 and older were made randomly from those who signed up for the waiting list to receive the vaccine; also, of the 1,800, about 400 are underserved seniors who get assistance from Washoe County Human Services Agency.

Those who signed up are asked to check their email that they provided to be on the waiting list, which will have instructions to schedule a test. It’s recommended that you check your spam folder. If you know of a senior who signed up for the waiting list, we ask that you contact them to check if they received it.

There is no timetable when the next round of COVID-19 vaccines for seniors will be available as it is determined by how much COVID-19 vaccine comes in on a given week.

After those 70 and older are vaccinated, the next group per the State’s COVID-19 prioritization is those who are 65 years of age to 69. It is unknown when the transition to the 65-69 age group will occur. The Health District is also simultaneously providing vaccines to frontline/essential workforce lane, per the state’s guidance.

There are several other ways for seniors to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in addition to this process. Contact Renown Health and Saint Mary’s for opportunities to get vaccinated and contact your medical provider.
