40,000th COVID-19 case reported in Washoe County

Change to daily update to occur starting Friday

Jan. 21, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting the 40,000th COVID-19 case in Washoe County and three COVID-19-related deaths. The deceased are a female in her 40s, a male in his 70s and a female in her 80s; all had an underlying health condition. 

Additionally, we’re reporting 692 recoveries and 176 new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County. For COVID-19 vaccines, the Health District administered 970 COVID-19 vaccines on Wednesday (310 received second doses, 660 first doses) and 12,146 overall.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 40,158 (+176 from 1/20)
  • Deaths: 576 (+3)
  • Recovered: 25,292 (+692)
  • Active cases: 14,290 (-519)
  • Hospitalized with COVID-19*: 169 (-7)
  • Vaccines administered by Washoe County Health District**: 12,146 (+970)

*Data from Nevada Hospital Association (not updated on weekends or holidays) includes residents from outside of Washoe County.

**This number is approximate and includes only COVID-19 vaccines administered by the Health District and includes first and second doses.

COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of January 21: 333,174 (+3,048 since 1/20)

Note: These figures are provided by the State of Nevada and can be found on the State Dashboard. COVID-19 tests may include non-Washoe County residents who were tested in Washoe County.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of January 21 (Numbers not updated on weekends/holidays):

  • 70 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (+2% since 1/20)
  • 69 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (+2%)
  • 55 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+1%)
  • 21 percent of all ventilators are in use (-1%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

COVID-19 Daily Update to be issued in the morning moving forward

The Regional Information Center’s Daily COVID-19 Update will be published every morning starting tomorrow, Jan. 21, 2021, instead of the afternoon. The reason for the change is so the data reported is for the entirety of the previous day and to better accommodate deadlines for media.
