COVID-19 cases surpass 43,000 in Washoe County; active cases drop below 4,000
1 COVID-19-related death, 34 new cases reported; Health District administers 50,000th vaccine
March 3, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting one additional COVID-19-related death in Washoe County with 34 new cases and 242 recoveries. The deceased is a female in her 80s who had an underlying health condition.
We’re reporting the 43,000th COVID-19 case in Washoe County with 43,004 total. Additionally, active COVID-19 cases in the community dropped below 4,000 for the first time since Nov. 10, 2020 (3,844).
While some states are reopening businesses to full capacity, the Health District is urging residents to continue to follow the governor’s mandate on wearing masks in public and limiting small gatherings. We are reminded from our last COVID-19 surge that Washoe County went from about 80 cases per day in early October to more than 500 cases per day in late November, which shows how quick this virus can wreak havoc. Additionally, the Washoe County Health District surpassed 50,000 total vaccines administered (both first and second doses) on Tuesday when it vaccinated 1,267 people.

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of March 3:
- 63 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (+1% since 3/2)
- 60 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (+1%)
- 37 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+0%)
- 21 percent of all ventilators are in use (+1%)

The Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in Washoe County
The Washoe County Regional COVID-19 Response Team received the first shipment of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday.
