Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center today is reporting eight recoveries and 21 additional cases of COVID-19 in Washoe County.
- Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 184
- Deaths: 4
- Recoveries: 26
- Active cases: 154
Two more Washoe County Sheriff’s Office employees test positive for COVID-19
Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam reported today that two additional Sheriff’s Office employees have tested positive for COVID-19.
One of the employees is a Deputy Sheriff who has been out of the office since March 11 and has not returned to work since. The Sheriff’s Office became aware of the positive result today so the deputy will remain at home until medically cleared to return to work.
The second employee, a civilian, had been on vacation until March 18. She worked three days and then was sent home after travel guidelines were issued by the Health District. The employee had no interaction with the public. The Sheriff’s Office learned of her positive test result today.
The Sheriff’s Office continues to work with the Washoe County Health District for further investigation of these cases. Information about all persons who may have come into contact with these employees is being provided to the Health District.
The Sheriff’s Office is prepared to take appropriate steps in the future based on recommendations from the Health District.
Region suspends late fees for sewer service
Due to the current COVID-19 crisis that is impacting our region, Washoe County and the cities of Reno and Sparks are suspending sewer account late fees for those who have been financially impacted. Washoe County is working with individuals on sewer account late fees on a case-by-case basis.
The City of Reno is extending the payment deadline and not applying penalties to accounts for 30 days after the state returns to normal business, which will occur some time after April 30, 2020. The City of Sparks has waived late fees for this quarter and urges individuals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to contact customer service if they need assistance with making sewer account payments.
How to Volunteer – Medical Personnel
Medical personnel who want to volunteer to support the COVID-19 response should email their interest to WCHDvolunteers@washoecounty.us or call Washoe 311 (Dial 3-1-1). Volunteers may not be needed immediately. The Washoe County Health District is compiling a contact list should the need arise.
Hospital Donations
Please do not drop off donations to our local hospitals without first coordinating with the facility. Our hospitals appreciate community support and want to ensure your donation drop-off follows our safety protocols. Heightened precautions are in place and only essential personnel and patients are allowed into our facilities.
Construction Crews Working Safely on RTC projects
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is working with its contracted construction crews to ensure the health and safety of employees and the community. Continuing construction operations safely is critical to advance important infrastructure projects, especially while many businesses have modified operations. One of the RTC’s contracted construction companies, Sierra Nevada Construction (SNC), is busy fast-tracking operations on the RTC’s Virginia Street Project.
SNC crews are taking health and safety seriously during the pandemic by following the Nevada OSHA’s COVID-19 guidance for construction operations, which includes social distancing among construction crews, smaller crew sizes, frequent hand washing and sanitizing, and staying home if sick.
