176 new COVID-19 cases, total recoveries eclipse 20,000

Dec. 28, 2020. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting 176 new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County. After a cleanup of the data, we’re reporting 668 recoveries for a total of 20,492.

There were zero COVID-19-related deaths reported today.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 35,038 (+176 from 12/27)
  • Deaths: 460 (+0)
  • Recovered: 20,492 (+668)
  • Active cases: 14,086 (-492)
  • Hospitalized with COVID-19*: 300 (+2)

*Data from Nevada Hospital Association (not updated on weekends or holidays) includes residents from outside of Washoe County.

  • Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County as of December 28: 294,622 (+622 since 12/27)

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of December 28 (Numbers not updated on weekends):

  • 80 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (-5% since 12/24)
  • 68 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (-5%)
  • 58 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-9%)
  • 34 percent of all ventilators are in use (-1%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

Cities of Reno, Sparks partner with Walgreens to offer free COVID-19 testing

The cities of Reno and Sparks are partnering with Walgreens to offer residents free COVID-19 testing beginning Sunday, December 27, 2020. Residents can make an online appointment on the Walgreens website by visiting www.Walgreens.com/COVID19testing.

Testing will be available at eight local Walgreens locations:

Reno

  • 12645 S. Virginia St.
  • 10370 N. McCarran Blvd.
  • 750 N. Virginia St.
  • 305 Lemmon Dr.

Sparks

  • 2299 Oddie Blvd.
  • 9705 Pyramid Way
  • 3000 Vista Blvd.
  • 292 Los Altos Pkwy.

The Washoe County Health District is currently working with medical professionals who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals or companies who have not scheduled a COVID-19 vaccine are asked to read the latest Washoe County Health District Epi News, which can be found here.

Residents are asked to avoid contacting the Health District regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and instead go to our website for the latest information.
