Jan. 7, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting three COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County: A female in her 90s, a male in his 70s and a female in her 80s; all had an underlying health condition.
Additionally, we’re reporting 275 new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County for a total of 37,401 cases.
- Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 37,401 (+275 from 1/6)
- Deaths: 521 (+3)
- Recovered: 21,758 (+100)
- Active cases: 15,122 (+172)
- Hospitalized with COVID-19*: 215 (-7)
- Vaccinations administered by Washoe County Health District**: 6,634
*Data from Nevada Hospital Association (not updated on weekends or holidays) includes residents from outside of Washoe County.
**This number is approximate and includes only COVID-19 vaccines administered by the Health District. Total vaccinations in Washoe County will be published when the data is made available by the State.

Hospital bed and ventilator information
According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of January 7 (Numbers not updated on weekends):
- 79 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (+1% since 1/6)
- 67 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (+1%)
- 50 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-2%)
- 26 percent of all ventilators are in use (-3%)
NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.
Regional Fire Agencies to help with COVID-19 vaccine administration in Tier 2
The Washoe County Health District will be transitioning to Tier 2 in COVID-19 vaccine administration starting this weekend with educators in Washoe County, per the Tiers identified by the State COVID-19 playbook. Local pharmacies will be administering COVID-19 vaccines to the 75 and older category of Tier 2.
The regional fire agencies (Reno Fire Department, Sparks Fire Department, Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue and North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District) are starting to assist the Health District with Tier 2 administration.
Washoe County needs volunteers for COVID-19 fight
The Washoe County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is looking for medical professionals or those without medical experience to volunteer to help fight COVID-19 in Washoe County.
The greatest need is for volunteers with computer skills, people skills, clinical and clerical skills.
MRC was created to support public health and emergency response efforts during natural disasters and other emergencies by providing trained volunteers to help staff shelters, alternate care sites, and points of dispensing. Given the rise in hospitalizations, continued demand for COVID-19 testing, and now dispensing of the COID-19 vaccine, volunteers are needed to support the region.
