Dec. 9, 2020. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting 10 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County. The deceased include seven males (ages 50s, 2-60s, 2-70s, 80s, 90s) and three females (40s, 60s, 70s) and all but one had an underlying health condition (male, 60s undetermined if there was an underlying health condition).

There have been 338 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County with 60 reported in December. The 10 reported ties the record for most reported in one day (Dec. 2).

Additionally, we’re reporting 284 new COVID-19 cases and 732 recoveries. The increase in recoveries was due to a data audit. Recoveries reported, as noted in Tuesday’s update, have been lower recently due to the influx in new COVID-19 cases.

Hospital bed and ventilator information

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of December 9 (Numbers not updated on weekends):

  • 88 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (-1% since 12/8)
  • 75 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (-1%)
  • 59 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+1%)
  • 35 percent of all ventilators are in use (+0%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

Health District suspending return-to-work letters

The Health District is suspending its efforts to provide letters to employers stating that an employee is cleared from isolation and can return to work due to the influx of new COVID-19 cases. We’re encouraging employers to work with employees to understand the recovery criteria listed here, which is:

  1. At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, and
  2. At least 24 hours have passed since last fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, and
  3. Symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath) have improved.

Volunteer to help fight COVID-19 in Washoe County

The Washoe County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is looking for medical professionals or those without medical experience to volunteer to help fight COVID-19 in Washoe County.

MRC was created to support public health and emergency response efforts during natural disasters and other emergencies by providing trained volunteers to help staff shelters, alternate care sites, and points of dispensing. Given the rise in hospitalizations and increased demand in COVID-19 testing, volunteers are needed to support the region. Dec. 8, 2020. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting seven COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County. The deceased are:

  • Male, 80s, underlying health condition
  • Male, 70s, underlying health condition
  • Female, 80s, underlying health condition
  • Female, 80s, underlying health condition
  • Female, 80s, underlying health condition
  • Female, 80s, underlying health condition
  • Male, 70s, underlying health condition

There have been 328 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County, which are determined by a physician or medical examiner to be COVID-19-related as the main cause of death, underlying cause of death or contributing cause of death.

Additionally, we’re reporting 354 new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County with 85 recoveries.

Total recoveries are likely under-reported. That is because disease investigators with the Washoe County Health District have been unable to make contact with every case that is eligible for recovery (recovery eligibility here) due to the surge of new COVID-19 cases since mid-October. Contacting new cases is and has been deemed a priority over recovery notification.

Washoe County residents with mild to moderate illness who are not severely immunocompromised, or persons with COVID-19 who have symptoms and were able to care for themselves at home, must meet the following conditions before proceeding back into public:

  • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, and

Ha habido 328 muertes relacionadas con COVID-19 en el Condado de Washoe, que han sido determinadas como tal por un médico o médico forense como muertes relacionadas con COVID-19 como la causa principal, causa subyacente o la causa contribuyente.

Adicionalmente, reportamos 354 casos nuevos de COVID-19 en el Condado de Washoe con 85 recuperaciones.

Es probable que el total de recuperaciones este sub-informado.  Esto se debe a que los investigadores de enfermedades con el Distrito de Salud del Condado de Washoe no han podido comunicarse con todos los casos elegibles para recuperación (elegibilidad de recuperación aquí) debido al aumento en nuevos caso de COVID-19 desde mediados de octubre.  Contactar a los casos nuevos es y has sido considerada una prioridad sobre las notificaciones de recuperación.

Los residentes del Condado de Washoe con enfermedades leves o moderadas que no están severamente inmunocomprometidas, o personas con COVID-19 que tienen síntomas y han podido cuidar de sí mismos en casa, deber de llenar las siguientes condiciones antes de reintegrarse al público:
