COVID-19 vaccine available to those aged 12 years and older. Do Your Part.

May 21, 2021 Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is providing a COVID-19 vaccine community newsletter in Washoe County to help educate residents on the mass vaccination effort by the COVID-19 Response Team and community partners.

Update from the COVID-19 Response Team

Providers in Washoe County have administered 397,947 COVID-19 vaccines overall (188,278 fully vaccinated). Visit the State of Nevada’s vaccine dashboard to see more.  All Nevadans 12 years and older now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Over  45 percent of Washoe County residents over the age of 12 are fully vaccinated.

3 simple rules to follow regarding the updated mask mandates

  1. If you are fully vaccinated, you no longer have to wear a mask, indoors or outdoors.
  2. If you have not been vaccinated, you are still required to wear a mask indoors.
  3. If a business asks that you still wear a mask when visiting them, please respect their rules.

Appointments and Drive-Ups Accepted at Washoe County Health District Vaccination POD  
Schedule an appointment by going to this link or call 775-328-2427. Appointments are not required but they are recommended to speed up the process to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is approved for ages 12-17.

Homebound vaccine appointments available
The Washoe County Health District is providing COVID-19 vaccines to homebound residents.

People age 12 years and older who are homebound, including those who require a taxing effort to leave home, require assistance of another to leave the house or are bedridden, can call 775-328-2427 or email covidvaccine@washoecounty.us to sign up.

The Second Dose is Important!

Please do not skip the second dose of your vaccine. Your second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine gives you more protection than just having the first. Research shows that you are 94% likely to NOT be hospitalized should you get COVID-19 after you’ve been vaccinated, but only if you’ve received both doses. Those who have only received the first dose, are only 60% likely to not be hospitalized.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses. The Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine only requires one dose.

May 21, 2021 Reno/Sparks, NV – El Centro Regional de Información está proporcionando un boletín comunitario semanal sobre la vacuna contra COVID-19 en el Condado de Washoe para ayudar a informar a sus residentes sobre el esfuerzo de vacunación a gran escala por parte del Equipo Responsivo de COVID-19 y sus socios comunitarios.

3 simples reglas a seguir con respecto a los mandatos sobre tapabocas

El Distrito de Salud del Condado de Washoe provee vacunas contra COVID-19 a los residentes que están confinados a su hogar.

¡La Segunda Dosis es importante!

Por favor no salte la segunda dosis de su vacuna.  Su segunda dosis de la vacuna le provee con más protección que si solo recibe una dosis.  Las investigaciones muestran que hay un 94% de probabilidad de evitar ser hospitalizado si se contagia con COVID-19 después de vacunarse, pero solo si recibe ambas dosis.  Aquellos que solo han recibido una dosis, solo tiene un 60% de probabilidad de no ser hospitalizados.

One-dose Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine appointments available Thursday, May 27

May 21, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting one COVID-19-related death, 29 additional COVID-19 cases in Washoe County with 50 recoveries. The deceased is a male in his 70s and it’s unknown if there was an underlying health condition. There have been 679 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.

The COVID-19 positivity rate in Washoe County fell to 4.5 percent, which is the lowest it has been since the State launched their COVID-19 County Tracker.  

The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine is available Thursday, May 27, 2021, at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. The Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine requires only one dose, which means you would be considered fully vaccinated two weeks after on June 10 and be able to not wear a mask indoors or outdoors, per the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention guidance.

COVID-19 vaccines are available for those 12 years and older. You can schedule an appointment here. Appointments are not required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Please note that registering for a vaccine appointment will take less time at check-in. Those aged 12-17 years must receive the Pfizer vaccine and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the appointment.

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County:

  • 63 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (+0% since 5/20)
  • 66 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (+0%)
  • 41 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-2%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

Mask guidance from CDC

Washoe County and the Local Authority plan will follow Governor Sisolak’s Directive 45 and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance regarding masks for vaccinated individuals.  Anyone who has not been vaccinated must still wear a mask as required by the CDC’s guidance for unvaccinated individuals and we encourage anyone who has not received a vaccine to do so as soon as possible. Additionally we ask our residents and visitors to respect businesses and other organizations that choose to require masks regardless of vaccination status at their establishments.

Sign up for the COVID Trace App

COVID Trace is a contact tracing mobile app developed by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services that uses a technology called the Exposure Notifications System from Google and Apple. The app exchanges anonymous information with other phones in your vicinity and can notify you if you’ve come in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.See more here.

Se han administrado más de 45 mil pruebas de COVID-19 en el Condado de Washoe

Mayo 20, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – El Centro Regional de Información reporta 18 casos adicionales de COVID-19, 191 recuperaciones y ni una muerte relacionada con COVID-19.

Mas del 45 porciento de los residentes de 12 años o mayores han sido totalmente vacunados en el Condado de Washoe, según el Boletín de COVID-19 de la Responsiva a la Salud de Nevada.  Casi el 54 porciento de residentes de 12 años o mayor han iniciado su vacunación, lo que significa que han recibido la primer dosis de la serie de dos dosis, o se ha vacunado con Janssen (Johnson y Johnson), la cual solo requiere una dosis.  Igualmente, se han administrado más de 450,000 pruebas de COVID-19 en el Condado de Washoe.

More than 450K COVID-19 tests have been administered in Washoe County

May 20, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting 18 additional COVID-19 cases, 191 recoveries and no COVID-19-related deaths.

More than 45 percent of residents 12 years and older are fully vaccinated in Washoe County, according to the NV Health Response COVID-19 Dashboard. Nearly 54 percent of residents 12 years and older have had their vaccines initiated, which means they’ve received the first dose of a two-dose series, or received the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine, which only requires one dose. More than 450,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered in Washoe County as well.

COVID-19 vaccine appointments are available throughout the area for those 12 years and older. You can schedule an appointment here. Appointments are not required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. COVID Trace is a contact tracing mobile app developed by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services that uses a technology called the Exposure Notifications System from Google and Apple. The app exchanges anonymous information with other phones in your vicinity and can notify you if you’ve come in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.See more here.
