3 additional COVID-19-related deaths, 21 new cases and 202 recoveries reported

March 2, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting three additional COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County for a total of 645. The deceased are a male in his 60s, a female over age 100 and a female in her 70s; all had an underlying health condition.

Additionally, we’re reporting 21 new COVID-19 cases and 202 recoveries.

  • Total COVID-19 cases in Washoe County: 42,970 (+21 from 3/1)
  • Deaths: 645 (+3)
  • Recovered: 38,322 (+202)
  • Active cases: 4,003 (-184)
  • Hospitalized with COVID-19*: 35 (+2 from 3/1)
  • Vaccines administered in Washoe County total**: 119,003 (+0 from 3/1)
  • Vaccines administered by Washoe County Health District***: 49,242 (+672 from 3/1)

*Data from Nevada Hospital Association includes residents from outside of Washoe County.

  • 62 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (-1% since 3/1)
  • 59 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (-1%)
  • 37 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+1%)
  • 20 percent of all ventilators are in use (-1%)

NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

To see more demographic information about Washoe County residents who have received the vaccine, see this spreadsheet provided by the State of Nevada. For context, the data presented was entered into the state’s immunization database, WebIZ, and it often takes several days to enter that data after a shot is administered. The majority of people who received the vaccine in Washoe County initially were first responders, health care workers and others frontline/essential workforce designated by the State of Nevada in its playbook.

Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine arrives in Washoe County

March 2, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The first shipment of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in Washoe County (see photo at bottom of page).

Approximately 3,600 doses were delivered to the Washoe County Health District on Tuesday. The Regional COVID-19 Response Team is working to introduce the vaccine into upcoming vaccine Point of Dispensing (POD) events in the area, but no details are confirmed yet. 

The Regional Information Center will refer to the vaccine as the “Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 Vaccine” on first reference or “Janssen” moving forward, following guidance from the Centers of Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on how to refer to it. We encourage media and the general public to do the same.

Janssen is the pharmaceutical company manufacturing the vaccine and is owned by Johnson & Johnson. If a resident receives this specific vaccine, the information on the vaccine card will read “Janssen” and not “Johnson & Johnson.”

Marzo 2, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – el primer envío de la vacuna contra COVID-19 de (Johnson & Johnson) ha llegado al Condado de Washoe.

Se entregaron aproximadamente 3,600 dosis al Distrito de Salud del Condado de Washoe el martes. El Equipo Regional Responsivo de COVID-19 trabaja para introducir la vacuna en los próximos eventos de vacunación en los Puntos de Dispensación (POD) del área, pero no se han confirmado los detalles.

El Centro Regional de Información se referirá a esta vacuna como la “Vacuna contra COVID-19 Janssen (Johnson y Johnson)” como primera referencia o “Janssen” en el futuro, siguiendo la guía de los Centros de Control y Prevención de Enfermedad (CDC) y la Asociación de Alimentos y Medicamentos (FDA) sobre como referirse a dicha vacuna.  Encomiamos a los medios y al público general a hacer lo mismo.

Reno/Sparks, NV – El Centro de Información Regional reporta tres muertes adicionales relacionadas con COVID-19 en el Condado de Washoe para un total de 645.  Los difuntos son un hombre en sus 60s, una mujer con más de 100 años y una mujer en sus 70s; todos con afecciones subyacentes.

March 1, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is reporting 41 additional COVID-19 cases in Washoe County and 116 recoveries.

The state of Nevada announced that 5,996 additional vaccines have been administered in Washoe County since Friday’s report (119,003 total). In Washoe County, seniors 65 and older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. On the frontline/essential workforce front, currently those in the Frontline Supply Chain Logistics category, specifically “Agriculture and Food Processing” and “End-to-End Essential Goods Supply Chain (includes manufacturing, transport, distribution and sale of essential items)” are eligible.
