Keep our kids safe and fight COVID-19

The Washoe County School Board of Trustees recently voted to reopen elementary schools. The Washoe County Health District respects this decision; however, we need everyone in our community to do their part to bring down the high levels of transmission of COVID-19 if we are going to be able to safely keep our economy and our schools open.  We heard at the School Board meeting how important it is to have the schools open.  We must recognize that we must take action now and continue to be vigilant if we are to succeed in reopening.

The current levels of COVID-19 transmission are very high; just last Saturday, July 25, the Health District reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in one day with 159, which was broken today with 179 cases. Mask or face coverings are required when in the public, per Governor Sisolak’s mandate, and social distancing of 6 feet or more must be maintained when around non-household contacts in order to prevent the spread of disease.
