COVID-19 weekday updates come to a close – residents urged to follow COVID-19 Dashboard
Businesses can operate at 100% capacity without social distancing; masks not required for those vaccinated
June 1, 2021. Reno/Sparks, NV – The Regional Information Center is ending its weekday COVID-19 updates after today and encourages the general public to follow the Washoe County COVID-19 Dashboard and State COVID-19 Dashboard for updated COVID-19 information.
The change coincides with Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak’s announcement to terminate all state COVID-19 mitigation measures by June 1. As of today, all businesses in Washoe County can reopen to 100 percent capacity and social distancing is no longer required. Masks do not need to be worn by those who have received the COVID-19 vaccine (1 dose for Janssen – Johnson & Johnson and two doses for Moderna and Pfizer) and it has been two weeks since the final dose.
Below are a few milestones that have occurred:
- Washoe County Regional Information Center has distributed over 490 COVID-19 updates
- More than 200,000 Washoe County residents are fully vaccinated (49.19% of Washoe County 12 years and older)
- More than 417,000 doses have been administered in Washoe County (56.49% of Washoe County 12 years and older)
- COVID-19 positivity rate in Washoe County is at 3.6%
- 7-day moving average for new cases per day is at 15 as of May 31, the lowest since May 12, 2020
The Washoe County COVID-19 Dashboard will be updated Monday-Friday (excluding holidays). The newest version shows the daily new cases reported and incorporates key COVID-19 vaccine metrics. We will continue to send out COVID-19 updates as needed – residents can sign up for those emails here.
“The downward trend in COVID-19 transmission is great to see and it’s fueled by Washoe County residents stepping up to receive the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Kevin Dick, District Health Officer in Washoe County. “While our vaccine rate is above the state average, there is still a significant percentage of residents who have yet to get the vaccine. I would urge those on the fence to take a look at the data and talk to friends, family and colleagues about it. Over 2.2 million doses have been administered just in Nevada since December. The vaccine works and now is the time to get it done.”
COVID-19 vaccine appointments are available this week at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center (RSLEC) – you can schedule an appointment here. Several pharmacies in Washoe County have the COVID-19 vaccine available. More community vaccine events can be found at www.nvcovidfighter.org under Washoe County.
Over the last four days, 39 additional COVID-19 cases have been reported with 177 recoveries and no COVID-19-related deaths. No additional cases are reported today because staff were off duty in observance of Memorial Day. The date of the update represents data from the previous day.
- May 29, 2021: 11 cases, 55 recoveries
- May 30, 2021: 18 cases, 58 recoveries
- May 31, 2021: 10 cases, 64 recoveries
- June 1, 2021: 0 cases, 0 recoveries (no report due to observance of Memorial Day)

Please note that COVID-19 case count, recovery and death information can change retroactively based on updated information that the Washoe County Health District receives. For example, if the Health District receives new positive test results or discovers that a case did not live in Washoe County, the number of cases, recoveries or deaths reported on a previous day can go up or down based on what was previously reported. Hospital bed and ventilator information
According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County:
- 58 percent of all licensed hospital beds are occupied (-6% since 5/28)
- 61 percent staffed hospital beds are occupied (-6%)
- 36 percent of all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (-11%)
NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

A new version of the Washoe County COVID-19 dashboard launched on May 27, 2021. The updated version offers a better experience on a mobile device, includes pertinent vaccine data and incorporates the Truckee Meadows COVID Risk Meter. See the dashboard here. Lyft and Uber announce free or discounted rides to COVID-19 vaccine appointments
The rideshare companies Uber and Lyft announced that each are offering free or discounted rides to and from COVID-19 vaccine appointments. 3 simple rules to follow regarding the updated mask mandates
- If you are fully vaccinated, you no longer have to wear a mask, indoors or outdoors.
- If you have not been vaccinated, you are still required to wear a mask indoors.
- If a business asks that you still wear a mask when visiting them, please respect their rules.

COVID Trace is a contact tracing mobile app developed by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services that uses a technology called the Exposure Notifications System from Google and Apple. The app exchanges anonymous information with other phones in your vicinity and can notify you if you’ve come in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.See more here.
